SHORT POEM BY A CHILD CANCER PATIENT: IN THE LAP OF GOD

Copyright@shravancharitymission

health child patient

IN THE LAP OF GOD

What was my wrong?

That you took away my song,

For when I opened my eyes,

I was in severe bites.

*

You taught me a lesson,

By plaguing me with cancer,

But I had not harmed anyone,

So why the torture?

*

As a child,

I had no devious past,

Yet you stepped on my present,

And took away my craft.

*

They call you kind,

They call you a forgiver,

Synonym for mercy,

But you left me in heresy.

*

Fear not my child,

For I’m with you every while,

And you are not alone,

In this vast world of mine.

*

For you are special,

In life’s battle,

And you are my messenger,

And you are my harbinger.

*

You puzzled me God,

You scared me God,

But after talking to you,

I am at peace God,

For I now know,

I am in your lap God.

POETRY: BAD TIMES A FRIEND OF ALL TIMES

Copyright@shravancharitymission

BAD TIMES A FRIEND OF ALL TIMES

Pricey and snobby was good times,

Where bad times was a friend of all times,

Choosy and selective was good times,

When cheaply available was bad times.

*

In the skit of life,

Only few had the privilege of good times,

Rest remained in the domain of bad times,

Quite easily the friend of all times.

*

In life where one longs for good times,

Bad time comes uninvited,

Good times chooses where to go,

But bad times hovers every pore.

*

Good times remains a friend of the few,

Where bad times befriends every new,

Good times is elitist,

Where bad times is populist.

*

And in the cage of times,

Only few are having a good time,

And most in general bad times,

That makes me ask,

Who invented these slimy times,

Doesn’t look like the work of a shrine,

*

But does God work through times,

Or time works through God,

The question remains unanswered,

Over a long period of time.

*

Bad times is more laborious than good times,

And it also teaches the lessons of life,

While good times teaches only lessons of rhyme,

And it all happens in the ambit of caged time.

*

And in the frequents of life,

I have dealt more with the wrath of bad times,

Than the rhymes of good times,

And so to me bad times is a friend of all times.

POETRY: RAIN-RAIN

RAIN rain1 rain2

RAIN- RAIN

From the nature’s domain,

Comes the soothing rain,

That washes my strain,

And cleanses my brain.

*

For to live and sustain,

I collect all the sludge and insane,

And when the stench becomes overbearing,

She comes to claim.

*

In the torrential rain,

She showers and splashes,

Her blessings and gains,

That we all can claim.

*

For in the flux and flow of life,

So often I mingle and mangle,

To suit my gains,

And when I lose count of sanity,

I look up for soothing rains.

*

She comes every year,

And she comes to everyone,

Some love her and some hate her,

But no one can do without her.

*

She’s the almighty,

She’s the TNT,

She’s the bully,

But she is also life giving.

*

We abuse her,

We waste her,

We tie her,

Yet we can’t hold her.

*

We drown when she over showers,

We parch when she doesn’t shower,

And from rain to water,

She runs the cosmos full throttle.

*

And in the merry-go-round of life,

When I feel tormented,

I look up to the skies moment by moment,

To find out where is she in disguise?

*

And when the first showers,

Strike mother earth,

Nature blossoms humans smile,

And ambience recoils.

*

And every year,

When my chips are down,

I know it’s about time,

For the soothing showers to come down.

*

And as she comes pouring down,

I walk downhill and to the downtown,

In my mackintosh and gumboots,

Criss crossing the puddles and the ponds,

And holding on to my pleasant horizons.

*

Is when the child in me says,

Enjoy the cloudy overcast,

And celebrate the rain,

For it won’t stay,

And such is the bliss of soothing rain.

POETRY: GLAMOUR VS HONOUR … in honour of defence forces

Copyright@shravancharitymission

SOLDIER 3 SOLDIERSOLDIER1

GLAMOUR VS HONOUR

(In honour of defence forces)

Away from the glamour and in a corner,

I lead a life of honour,

Where I defend my motherland,

While you claim all the glamour.

*

For me my motherland is my honour,

About which there is no clamour,

Where in the line of control,

I often display my valorous banner.

*

And when I stand in the border alone,

I find it is bereft of any glamour,

Where in the dredge and murk,

I defend my honour,

While you sleep at home,

In those serene corners.

*

When I enter the martyr’s memorial,

I find it is decorated with honour,

But there is no glamour.

*

And one day when honour met glamour,

Glamour had lots to clamour,

But only about glamour,

For glamour felt,

Honour had not made glamour,

But glamour had made honour,

But I didn’t realise,

Without honour there isn’t any glamour.

*

Honour returns disillusioned,

As glamour refuses honour’s honour,

And while keeping a watch at the LOC,

The soldier in me clamours,

About the dishonour by glamour.

*

But the call of duty,

Sweeps aside all the dishonour,

Where once again,

In the pitching sun, hitting rain,

and frosty cold,

I embark upon my duty,

To defend my my motherland,

For let my dues remain my dues for my needy countrymen.

*

And the “honour” of my nation is my “soldier,”

And the glamour–anything that dishonours my “soldier.”

POETRY: MY PAST IN MY LIFE AHEAD

Copyright@shravancharitymission

LA LA3 DA1

MY PAST IN MY LIFE AHEAD

In the life ahead lies the toil of my yesterday,

In the life ahead lies the heat of my today,

And in the life ahead slumbers my unruffled dreams waiting to unravel,

Is when my unknown life ahead tow-chains with my pristine past.

*

And in the cantabiles of today lies the unresting rehearse,

And all along the soft dribbles of the winding brooks,

Lies the harsh and cruel nature,

Yet life ahead only believes in its bloated ego.

*

Sanity says forget the past enjoy the present for future is unknown,

But i say unknown is unknown till it is known,

So be with your present,

And never dump your past,

For bright days ahead will only evolve out of your vibrant past.

*

And between the flashy today and the glamorous tomorrow,

Exists my mother of lifetime–my past,

That held my hand and showed me the way.

*

And when the flash dwindles and glamour recedes,

Much evaporates and little is left in the days ahead,

But a treasure to applaud,

In the realms of past and the bygone days.

*

And that is when i realised,

There is no future without a past,

But there is a past without a future.

POETRY: TAKING THE FIRST STEP

Copyright@shravancharitmission

first step first step1 first step2

TAKING THE FIRST STEP

In the journey of life,

Taking the first step was always a fright,

For there was no direction in sight,

Because it was a maiden flight,

And success was nowhere in hype.

*

A small beginning was all that mattered,

To bring about even a big charter,

Determined I coursed my way as I began my tread,

Only to realise the first step was bigger than the chapter.

*

Big things have small beginnings,

Small steps have longer journeys,

For first step breaks the inertia,

And first step starts the journey,

And journey takes you on the mission.

*

Remember first step is the dare,

And so you need to be beware,

For first step is path breaking,

And path-breaking is water shed.

*

And to bring about your watershed,

Don’t fear the first step,

For fear is road block and fear is your enemy,

And between fear and action,

Lies the destiny,

*

And if you don’t feel the need of a first step,

Ask yourself why,

For if you want moments of high,

It has to be through the skies,

And skies are not available,

Till you take the first step to fly.

POETRY: EERIE WAYS OF TIME

Copyright@shravancharitymission

TIME 2 TIME 3 TIME

EERIE WAYS OF TIME

In the spate of times,

It was always a mix of good and bad times,

but all of it was time’s time,

For I never owned an iota of time,

And time appeared to me like a borrowed rhyme.

*

And in this erratic world of mine,

No one could rule over time,

And having conquered the world,

One still lost to time.

*

While I cursed bad times,

I longed for good times,

But this eerie family of time,

Never gave me a steady time.

*

In certain moments aeons happened,

And in certain aeons, only moments could happen,

But in the graph of time,

Everywhere every time something always happened.

*

 It never let me rest,

As it never rested itself,

Always kept me on my toes,

Even when it had no toes.

*

Ageless, speechless, soundless,

Colourless, odourless, shapeless, stareless,

Yet it combats the mightiest,

and saves the daintiest.

*

It has no religion,

No place of worship,

No country it belongs to,

And no planet it comes from.

*

Yet when I look back,

I find I was never without time,

Whether good or bad,

Nevertheless, I was always in the company of time.

*

And then one day it smiled and said,

I am your friend, your mentor and your mirror of life,

For when you do good to others I make you smile,

And when you hurt I make you cry.

*

And in times of crisis,

I am the biggest healer,

And as you tread your journey,

I follow you as your healer.

*

So learn to respect thy time,

As you won’t go far if you waste time,

For good time is scarce,

In this world of crime.

*

And whether this way or that way,

Time will take care of you either way,

And as time says,

Those are my eerie ways.

POETRY: LIFE BECOMES EASY WHEN CHALLENGE BECOMES A PASSION

Copyright@shravancharitymission

passionchallengespassion 2

A poem from the book: ‘Refractions from the Prism of God.’

LIFE BECOMES EASY WHEN CHALLENGE BECOMES A PASSION

Life is a challenge without passion,

Life is tough till ambition becomes a passion,

Everything is distant till goals become a passion,

And life remains tough till the will-to-achieve becomes a passion.

*

For in the heaps of life challenges are galore,

And I am just me but aspirations are truckloads,

Time is zipping where challenges are pulling,

And in all of this only passions are balancing.

*

Life is all about perseverance to perfection,

For mediocrity is lamentation,

But perseverance is boring,

Without the spice of passion.

*

For in the anvil of a lifetime,

Horizons are wide,

Subsist, exist or excel,

And all is in your aspirational spell.

*

For average is average,

Success is success,

Achievement is achievement,

But excellence is excellence.

*

But there is no excellence without passion,

And no challenge with passion,

For life is only a matter of habit,

Where in every sphere of life,

Passions overtake challenges.

POETRY: YOUR CONSCIENCE WAS MY SIGN ON

 Copyright@shravancharitymission

CONSCIENCE CONSCIENCE1

YOUR CONSCIENCE WAS MY SIGN ON

In pursuit of you I prayed and prayed,

With you behind I strayed and strayed,

Knowing well you’ll protect me from all disgrace,

As the world looks up at you when in dire straights.

*

In all my wrongs you were a party,

As I churched and templed to keep you happy,

I divorced my disobedient conscience to be with you,

And in all my endeavours I only saw you.

*

You got me name fame wealth and riches,

You made me an icon to exemplify the masses,

I was going great guns,

Until one day it all stopped happening,

And God its tiring thereon.

*

Son you got me all wrong,

I was never in for your wrongs, and I’m deaf to songs,

And no more can see my own churches and temples,

Perhaps, God has now left them and gone,

And mere makeover and materialism is on,

*

And child when you were born,

I was around,

And I come to each child that is born,

To leave my sign on.

*

But God I didn’t find you when I was born,

So I kept looking for you in the temples, churches and my bygones,

And later … I discovered you in my prosperity and my riches,

Till one day it was all gone.

*

Dear son your conscience was my sign on,

Until one day you asked my ‘sign-on’ to carry on,

And since then you were on your own,

For I was long gone.

POETRY: WHEN I WENT WRONG

Copyright@shravancharitymission

wrong wrong 7 wrong1

WHEN I WENT WRONG

In the shimmers of life I never went wrong,

In the merry of life I never went wrong,

In the don’ts of life I never went wrong,

But In the dos of life I often went wrong.

*

When I helped, I went wrong,

And when I didn’t, I never went wrong,

When I was relevant I never went wrong,

When I was irrelevant I often went wrong.

 *

When I trusted I went wrong,

 When I didn’t I never went wrong,

My tragedies reminded me of my wrongs,

Where in the mirror of life I lay upside down.

 *

When I deviated I went wrong,

And when I didn’t I carried on headstrong,

For there will be moments of rights,

That will later appear as wrongs,

And moments of wrongs that will appear as rights.

*

So one day I asked myself what is right and what is wrong?

And gently it said what calms you is right,

And what doesn’t is wrong.

*

And with all those who wronged my right,

I remain calm.

As sadly, I know how often I went wrong.
