REMEMBRANCE–SHRADHANJALI

Copyright@shravancharitymission

 (Shravan Tripathi 23.1.1993 — 24.2.2009)

DEAR SHRAVAN

I see you here and I see you there,

Even when I know,

All very well,

You aren’t … really there.

*

And every year on this very day,

You do send me to despair,

But when I reflect,

 I still can recollect.

*

Those lovely moments,

When you were born,

When I had thought,

We’ll be together … life long,

But that was not to be.

*

In your fight for life,

I remember with gripe,

Seasons had come, and seasons had gone,

Where time was kind, but destiny was strong.

*

Though time fought well,

 Yet destiny won,

As it snatched you away,

With its divine intent.

*

Now that you’re gone,

There isn’t too much of a song,

Except for the noble mission,

That you had brought along.

*

You often come in my dreams,

That brings me loads of serene,

Is when, I wilfully dream,

To serve those sick umpteen.

*

It is said,

Life is a mystery,

Where destiny,

 Is another name of cruelty?

 But where God is kind,

But time is like a serpentine.

*

And when I bring it upon myself,

I realise,

Your short life span was indeed the mystery,

Where destiny pulled off the grim cruelty,

And between the mystery and the cruelty,

Was God’s beauty?

But where time still meanders,

Like the serpentine’s ferocity.

*

And in this windswept life of mine,

 One more year, goes by,

But I’m happy to tell you,

I’ve kept your mission alive.

*

So rest in peace,

For you have achieved,

What you came for, in discreet.

Only the luckiest of the lucky don’t encounter the agony of losing their child

LONELINESS–I’M IN ELECTRONIC COMPANY

Copyright@shravancharitymission

My home is like a neat diagram of wilderness now. Things are only quiet here. Life’s hullabaloo is over. There aren’t any vital unanswered questions left in my life to be unraveled any more … barring the ultimate one—death. But surprisingly, I have been handed out, some stiff situations in life that I never asked for in the first place, and that of course includes, certain wayward realities … the most striking one being, loneliness. After deep introspection, it appears to me like those divine semaphores. There is a world of emptiness around me.  It’s taken me more than sixty years to reach this stage. But I didn’t have to struggle for it, the way I struggled for my career and the upbringing of my family. It came on its own, uninvited. I stay in a megapolis—infested largely by a swarm of people occupying those tall blaring buildings all around me. Yet I’m all alone. And what an irony. For in a jungle, I would have been with, unknown but ferocious animals. But in the megapolis I’m with familiar yet unpredictable human beings. Nonetheless, I really can’t decipher which is more dangerous.

I have a time deprived family. They keep extremely busy. Mostly fire-fighting. So one day I approached God. Thinking he’ll give me company. But then he too has to run the universe, and so, he is very busy in his own world and doesn’t have time for me. Finally, I’ve learnt to live life king size, alone. So I keep busy one way or another. They say life has become easy, yet mind is never at rest. There is always something spooky about life that keeps hovering around me.

No one comes to my house, and when I attempt to visit someone I’m told they are going out. The timidity to interface … thus continues. I’m told this happens with most of us but we rarely speak about it.

But, ever since, flesh and blood averted me. My electronic friends have come to my rescue. I have them in droves, steadying my life. I start my day with them. In the night they take that extra pain to put me off to sleep. The smart phones and TV sets bring, so many of my electronic friends to my home each day.

I now have electronic friends in the likes of Mr Bachchan visiting me all day long showing little gimmicks loaded with huge parables. Where, Arnab Goswami tells me all about the world. Even, Prime Minister Narendra Modi walks into my house in his own electronic attire to tell me how he is serving India and even Rahul Gandhi and Donald Trump are not far away. To top it all, entire Youtube, Bollywood and even Hollywood is at my command.

Loneliness is the biggest scourge of the present day world. Yet life finds solutions for each catastrophe. Just as you can’t think of a life without flesh and blood, you can’t think of a life without your own electronic friends anymore. Can you?

This is to cajole all those who suffer because of loneliness. Rise up … get up … do something to kill it.

HAPPINESS and SIMPLICITY GO HAND IN HAND

Copyright@shravancharitymission

In my spells of loneliness I look for my happiness. When I get up early in the morning, it is quiet and lonely. This is when, I hope to come across happiness. The present moments are serenading and moving, where, you can even hear yourself breathing. It is still dark outside, but the dawn is about strike and where, the sun is gearing up to rise. The mood is dreary with all sorts of fears. As if, the heaven is far away, but the hell is about to strike, maybe anytime, during my life. People call it depression. But I guess that is only an impression. I slowly rise to sit on the bed. The silhouette on the side tells me, she is still, fast asleep. There is no pleasant reverie that tickles my funny bone. And like every day. I think of my God who has gone off to sleep and refuses to wake up. When I’m again struck, by that galling, every day whoosh that echoes once again … there is always so much to do, and how do I improve.

My mind is all confused as if I’m still in the woods. I squirm in mild agita and hackneyed clutter. When, I decide to leave my cot. Pondering, slowly, I walk up to the loo. And where, the first thing I try and do, is to woo my rue, with a splash of water. That brings the first ray of happiness on my just woken up, face. I follow it up with another and then another. It tones me up.

I decide to sprawl in the lawns for a while. Luckily I’m bereft of thoughts. So, the mind is empty. They say an empty mind is a devils workshop. But here, the devil is missing. Perhaps, he doesn’t believe in the age old proverb, anymore. He is in great demand. As, he has a lot to do, in terms of bearing out, the holy world, into turning unholy.

My mind has nothing to say. There is no content fermenting in it yet. So, heart is at peace. The dawn is now alive and the sun is now behind the high rise. The loneliness has only expanded and with that happiness has arrived. But I know it is only momentary. I often wonder who distributes these merry tickets of joy. Barring the early morning cameo I’ve never seen her in full flow.

She’s a mystery, happiness. She often comes uninvited. She follows no path. No paradigms and no rhymes. Nothing influences her, not even, tons, of holds in form of gold. People die for her and people lie for her. Everyone wants to hobnob with her. But she is aloof and beyond any loop.

At times one gets to feel, even God cannot control her. But yes, there is something that can tame her.

Says Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore—‘It is very simple to be happy, but it is very difficult to be simple.’

So, won’t it better to look for happiness in divine simplicity than in nightmarish loneliness?

USEFUL BRAINWAVES

Copyright@shravancharitymission

Watch your words. Words are everything. Even, the intentions of a well meaning communication could get derailed, if the choice of words is not good.

*

Recollect all those arrogant words that you have showered to insult others. They will return to haunt you someday. You will continue to live till you settle these bad debts.

*

You have no control over life and its changing situations. So in any given situation keep doing your best. That is all that is expected of you.

*

Cultivate a hobby. It is the only thing you can keep doing all your life between your personal and professional targets. It might even get you recognition.

*

In an explosive situation don’t take the route of offence first. For the offender might have the momentary win but then side effects of offence eats his life like a parasite.

*

If nothing makes you smile something is wrong with you.

*

By being a good listener you can gain both knowledge and even the depth of the person speaking.

*

Health is the biggest wealth. As long as you have health think God is kind to you.

*

While helping someone, remember. The helpee someday will attack you. To kill his gilt of having accepted help from you.

*

Try and see God in anything that helps you in life.

*

Avoid arguments for they are only a test of your vocal cords.

*

In silence try and catch the changing signals of life.

*

Go for long walks. It will trample all the negativity in you.

*

Take up something in life only with a lot of thought and due-diligence and then don’t just give it up so easily.

Poem: Silence

Copyright@shravancharitymission

Silence

In the graph of time,

Silence was always my recline,

Rather my pantomime,

And a seat in cloud nine.

*

But in the huff and puff of life,

And even in the nest of lovely times,

Silence invariably was sidelined,

Where noise pickled every mind,

*

It was noise building on noise,

Leaving behind the graceful poise,

And setting aside the quietude of life,

Only to lift the irate cries.

*

New words came around,

When sound pollution was born,

Coz silence had gone,

And mind was in bloody rage and storm.

*

Quite often,

Noise rose like a tyrant,

Spoke like a defiant,

And took the hell out of silence.

*

Turned peace into heat,

Serene into greed,

Right into wrong,

Peace into squall.

*

Noise was now all over,

But silence just had an enclosure,

Yet enclosure was merrier,

Where noise was like the bull terrier.

*

Here and there,

Silence saw noise everywhere,

But noise ensured,

Silence never dared.

*

I rule the world this day,

So you go and lock yourself in a cage,

For I am the means to communicate,

And you the lasting disgrace.

*

But silence knew,

After nerve-racking noise one requires fleeting silence,

But after peaceful silence,

One only desires a little more of silence,

And that alone is the victory of silence.

*

Where silence is like God’s blessings,

Noise like the devil’s bleating,

Silence connects to lasting goodness,

And noise to ultimate wilderness.

*

Silence is serene,

Silence is evergreen,

As it starts in the mother’s womb,

And continues till the tomb.

FASCINATING MONSOON

opyright@shravancharitymission

An overcast day, makes a lazy weekend that gives an ethereal feel, when you wake up to the light morning drizzle, tip-tap tip-tap. You realise you don’t have to go for work today. But you certainly can take your raincoat and step out, to witness the groovy nature in its mystifying colours, all splashed and splattered for you, so go there and enjoy. Where, the mind feels light, body feels like flying and the senses divine. The combination is indeed rare. Otherwise, there is always so much to do and so much to brood in your routine life.

I don’t expect to see the holy sun today. Like me he too is on leave. I guess they have a tie-up—the sun and the clouds. When the clouds appear, the sun goes on leave and doesn’t return till clouds leave. Sun might be strong, but today he looks weak, even when he is above the clouds. That reminds me of man. Who too like clouds, tries to block ways of God but is often weather beaten by time … waqt.

I step out quietly without a sound. Tina is fast asleep. No lunch to be packed, no hurried breakfast to be tabled. Little Khitkhit for a change, is in her own fantasy, and in a hug with her mother. On the verandah one can see a few uncomfortable pigeons, chirping mynas and even a few jumping sparrows, all trying to shrug the rain water off their feathers. The street lights are still lit because of the overcast. They normally fade with sunlight. The first few drops are rejuvenating. It feels like an unusual dawn that’ll refresh you for the entire year. One can’t but miss the few mongrels hiding under the parapet whimpering … as if the agony wasn’t enough that you’ve sent us rains.

The exterior is all wet as one tip toes to find that confident rhythm along the roadside that has become one big puddle. There are no children around. They all are in the cozy lap of the weekend, oblivious of the once in a while, fun zone outside. The surroundings are still, even when the drizzle has now become a downpour. I’m intact beneath my raincoat. Except for the milkman and the newspaper wala no one else is seen around, barring a few devoted morning walkers. Even the society guards are catching up on their forty winks.

Suddenly one gets to see the lightning followed by the sound of thunder. The nature is freaking out. I go past the wide streets with tall buildings all around that is now beginning to wake up to a wet dawn. The winding brooks that have sprung up all over have only become more loud and tuneful.

And as I walk along, I can’t help but think. Why is man the biggest adversary of nature when nature has provided so much for mankind?
