POEM: THE CORONA STORY

It all started in Wuhan,

Where Corona lived … behind a deadly micron,

They say he lived in a bat,

From where he was brought to a lab,

And from where he escaped,

Causing a worldwide … outrage.

*

The world couldn’t see … the contagion coming,

Dr Li too, was silenced … when he tried to whistle,

China created a smokescreen in Wuhan,

Where seemingly,

Even … WHO was put in a trance.

*

Countries and continents thought it’ll settle,

But Corona was now at a deadly level,

Italy battled … Spain fought,

UK … Germany overcame the hot-spot,

Yet Europe,

Went into a fraught.

*

New York trembled … America fumed,

Challenge indeed … was too huge,

Where,

Nothing seemed to work in the land of rules,

Yet US fought … with a determined sinew,

And where China remained in a beguile subterfuge.

*

Korea fretted,

Middle East fumbled,

Latin America fought … like a brute,

Russia battled.

India grappled,

Australia brawled,

New Zealand braved,

Africa endured,

While the Chinese virus,

Had a roaring field day.

*

The world kneeled,

As Covid rose,

From China’s core,

To mangle the world.

*

 The fight was now on,

As mankind was stormed,

Civilizations had suffered,

But the world had no buffer.

*

While everyone thought of,

Black Death and Spanish Flu,

It was Donald Trump,

Versus the Chinese Flu.

*

The scenario was horrific,

With suffering galore,

And a flood of dead bodies,

That made the world look sore.

*

And to save humanity,

Scientists had framed new rules,

Where mixing was banned,

And seclusion was in vogue,

*

Things had changed,

Protocols had altered,

Social distancing was in place,

Handshakes and hugs had effaced,

And where, namaste was the order of the day.

*

Touch and hugs had vanished,

Spice of life had tarnished

Tears were on,

Lockdown was prolonged,

Where migrants had an infinite marathon,

*

Citizens had lost,

In the quagmire of pandemic,

Where a cure,

 Appeared invisible.

*

But hope said,

Hold on,

As life will go on,

For it is not the end of the world.

And songs will return,

But to the tunes of upstairs,

*

For once in century,

Through a pandemic,

God reminds,

Human beings of their atrocities,

So don’t feel disheartened,

For good days shall return.

 (Shravan Tripathi 23.1.1993 — 24.2.2009)

DEAR SHRAVAN

I see you here and I see you there,

Even when I know,

All very well,

You aren’t … really there.

*

And every year on this very day,

You do send me to despair,

But when I reflect,

 I still can recollect.

*

Those lovely moments,

When you were born,

When I had thought,

We’ll be together … life long,

But that was not to be.

*

In your fight for life,

I remember with gripe,

Seasons had come, and seasons had gone,

Where time was kind, but destiny was strong.

*

Though time fought well,

 Yet destiny won,

As it snatched you away,

With its divine intent.

*

Now that you’re gone,

There isn’t too much of a song,

Except for the noble mission,

That you had brought along.

*

You often come in my dreams,

That brings me loads of serene,

Is when, I wilfully dream,

To serve those sick umpteen.

*

It is said,

Life is a mystery,

Where destiny,

 Is another name of cruelty?

 But where God is kind,

But time is like a serpentine.

*

And when I bring it upon myself,

I realise,

Your short life span was indeed the mystery,

Where destiny pulled off the grim cruelty,

And between the mystery and the cruelty,

Was God’s beauty?

But where time still meanders,

Like the serpentine’s ferocity.

*

And in this windswept life of mine,

 One more year, goes by,

But I’m happy to tell you,

I’ve kept your mission alive.

*

So rest in peace,

For you have achieved,

What you came for, in discreet.

POEM: DON’T GIVE UP

Copyright@shravancharitymission

DON’T GIVE UP

DON’T GIVE IN

THERE IS ALWAYS AN ANSWER TO EVERYTHING

THIS MY FRIEND IS FOR YOU

THE TRIALS THAT YOU FACE

AND THE DREAMS THAT YOU CHASE

YOU’RE BEHIND IN THE RACE

AND YOU’RE STRAYING FROM YOUR PACE

YOUR MIND IS SCATTERED ALL OVER THE PLACE

AND YOU’RE DESPERATE FOR SPACE

LITTLE DID HE KNOW

THIS IS YOUR TIME TO EMBRACE

DON’T GIVE UP

DON’T GIVE IN

THERE IS ALWAYS AN ANSWER TO EVERYTHING

YOU KNOW WE TEND TO HIDE WHAT’S INSIDE

AND WASTE TIME WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN

YET ISNT IT THE KEY TO BELIEVE IN OUR OWN IDENTITY

YOUR PAST BROUGHT YOU HERE

THIS IS WHERE IT ALL BEGINS

DON’T GIVE UP

DON’T GIVE IN

THERE IS ALWAYS AN ANSWER TO EVEYTHING

SO DON’T SIT HOUR AFTER HOUR

WHILE YOUR TRIBULATIONS TOWER

DON’T FORGET THE COUNTLESS BLESSINGS

EVER RICH YOU HAVE BEEN SHOWERED

FIND YOUR STRENGTHS AND YOUR POWERS

TO RISE ABOVE THE COWARDS

BE LIKE THE FLOWERS

THAT GIVE OFF ITS SCENT

WHEN ITS CRUSHED AND DEVOURED

DON’T GIVE UP

DON’T GIVE IN

THERE IS ALWAYS AN ANSWER TO EVERYTHING

AND I FOUND MYSELF RUNNING FROM CALAMITY

INSANITY TO SANITY

THIS IS A REALITY

THAT WE FORGET

WHO CREATED US AND MOULDED US

AND MADE US HUMAN BEINGS

WITH THE DETAILS AND FASHION OF

DNA AND GENES

WHO GAVE US A MIND TO JUDGE OUR OWN ACTIONS

AND ROUTINES BY ALL MEANS

DON’T GIVE UP

DON’T GIVE IN

THERE IS ALWAYS AN ANSWER TO EVERYTHING

AND YET LIFE CAN BE QUITE A MYSTERY

AND THE KEY TO SUCCESS DOESN’T COME FREE

AND IF YOU BELIEVE THIS IS ALL DECREED

THEN WHAT WILL BE WILL BE

BUT I GUESS NOT EVERYTHING THAT WE WISH FOR

IS NOT ALWAYS GUARANTEED

BUT YOUR EFFORTS WONT BE FRUITLESS

DON’T EVER THINK YOU’RE USELESS

WE ALL SERVE A PURPOSE

SO PLEASE DON’T FEEL HOPELESS

DON’T GIVE UP

DON’T GIVE IN

THERE IS ALWAYS AN ANSWER TO EVERYTHING

AND NO YOU’RE NOT JUST ANOTHER NUMBER

TO BE DISPOSED OF AFTER YOUR MOTHER FATHER SISTER BROTHER FRIEND AND A LOVER

TO BE TRUE TO YOURSELF IS WORTH THE STRUGGLE

ALTHOUGH THE CRITICS MAKE YOU SUFFER

TREES LOOSE THEIR LEAVES

ONLY TO BLOSSOM

BY THE SUMMER

DON’T GIVE UP

DON’T GIVE IN

THERE’S ALWAYS AN ANSWER TO EVRYTHING

SP REPEL NEGATIVITY WITH POSITIVITY

AND WATCH LIFE BRING EVERY SINGLE POSSIBILITY

AND HAVE AN ATTITUDE

AND IF YOU WANT TO BE HAPPY

THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT WE’RE MEANT TO DO

DON’T GIVE UP DON’T GIVE IN

THERE IS ALWAYS AN ANSWER TO EVERYTHING

TRIBUTE: COLVIN TALUQDARS COLLEGE, LUCKNOW

Copyright@shravancharitymission

A TRIBUTE TO COLVIN TALUQDARS COLLEGE LUCKNOW

Sir Auckland Colvin, Lieutenant Governor of the North West Provinces, while functioning as Lieutenant Governor of Avadh and Agra in 1889, conceived the idea of a school with the object of imparting education to the children of the British administrators and the landed aristocracy who were known as Taludars. That’s how this school rooted.

It is one of the oldest public schools of India. It was established in the year 1889, and has an enrolment of 1400 students and an academic staff of fifty. Located on the peaceful banks of river Gomti. It sprawls over a sixty acre plot. The school colour is blue that depicts tranquility. It has three hostels—Avadh, Anjuman and Hind. Five houses—Ajanta, Nalanda, Sanchi, Taxila and Ujjain.

It compares well with Rajkumar College, Raipur; Aitchison College, Lahore; and Mayo College, Ajmer. Lord Minto visited Colvin during its grand ‘Durbar Day’ (annual day) in 1908.

COLVIN

(Motto: Noblesse Oblige)

In Lucknawi tehzeeb and fizai Avadh,

Close to the splashes of Gomti,

And … the throbbing vibrations of Lucknow University,

Lies Colvin,

In its glory and aristocracy.

*

Colvin has the glamour,

But without the clamour,

It has the sprawling complex,

But without the imposing edifice.

*

It has the magnificent drive way,

That passes by the hearty hostels,

It has the lush green tennis courts,

And the fields where cricket is played galore.

*

The enclosed swimming pool,

That keeps you cool,

Where the lush green fields,

The racing tracks,

Convey the brass tacks.

*

Colvin resounds …,

The glory of merit,

Peaks of athletics,

March past of NCC,

In all its sincerity.

*

It has the proficiency of teachers,

Alacrity of prefects,

Astuteness of students,

That drives the institution.

*

With IT college … in its territory,

Kailash Hostel … in the locality,

Lucknow University in the vicinity,

And Hanuman Setu in its periphery,

Colvin … educates Lucknow … royally.

*

Can’t forget the chemistry lab,

Adjacent to the bio lab,

Where … one had the crucibles and the beakers,

And the other … dissection trays,

Waiting for the frogs and the cockroaches,

To be waylaid.

*

There was also physics in the syllabus,

With Newton in the atmosphere,

Where mathematics was the giant,

That kept students in the frying pan.

*

And then you had,

Shakespeare’s plays,

Sohan Lal Divedi’s craze,

And British and Mughal tirade.

*

Then there was the cycle stand,

With college canteen … at its command,

With cold drinks and chai,

And samosas and deep fries.

*

The kittenish junior school,

With its knowledgeable crew,

That taught young children,

With the least of rules.

*

And the big boys,

In blue ties …

And white uniforms,

In five houses,

Flocked around,

In those majestic surrounds.

*

And every year … once a year,

Colvin celebrates,

Its ‘Durbar day,’

When old boys gather,

To rekindle their fire.

*

So thanks to Auckland,

For having created Colvin,

With noblesse oblige as the motto,

That drives Colvin … in toto.

POEM: AUTUMN THE KING OF SEASONS

Copyright@shravancharitymission

POEM: AUTUMN THE KING OF SEASONS

When summer retires,

Monsoon tires,

Autumn arrives,

Before the winter strikes.

*

Is when the summer gets over,

Monsoon gets slower,

Nights become pleasant,

And days a merriment.

*

It’s time for the harvest,

When farmers fill their pockets,

But then the days begin to get shorter,

And the nights longer.

*

Horizon gets hazy,

Daylight gets dimmer,

Sun changes its line,

Is when darkness multiplies.

*

In the art of poetry,

Autumn strikes the chord of melancholy,

When summer is gone,

And winter is on the horizon.

*

Skies turn grey,

Usable daylight, drops by the day,

Where, makeup of the day,

Changes in the wake,

And night broadens its base.

*

It’s time for jumpers,

As the dawns are chilly,

Mornings are foggy,

Days are smoggy,

And nights are wintry.

*

As I step out of my house,

The air is heavy,

The breeze is frisky,

And where the sun is fussy.

*

All along the meadows,

There are long shadows,

But between the shadows,

There are divine hallows.

*

Autumn sounds like winter’s cousin,

No doubt the favourite of my seasons,

That announces the string of festivals,

And with that the celebrations,

So it indeed is,

The king of all seasons.

Poem: Silence

Copyright@shravancharitymission

Silence

In the graph of time,

Silence was always my recline,

Rather my pantomime,

And a seat in cloud nine.

*

But in the huff and puff of life,

And even in the nest of lovely times,

Silence invariably was sidelined,

Where noise pickled every mind,

*

It was noise building on noise,

Leaving behind the graceful poise,

And setting aside the quietude of life,

Only to lift the irate cries.

*

New words came around,

When sound pollution was born,

Coz silence had gone,

And mind was in bloody rage and storm.

*

Quite often,

Noise rose like a tyrant,

Spoke like a defiant,

And took the hell out of silence.

*

Turned peace into heat,

Serene into greed,

Right into wrong,

Peace into squall.

*

Noise was now all over,

But silence just had an enclosure,

Yet enclosure was merrier,

Where noise was like the bull terrier.

*

Here and there,

Silence saw noise everywhere,

But noise ensured,

Silence never dared.

*

I rule the world this day,

So you go and lock yourself in a cage,

For I am the means to communicate,

And you the lasting disgrace.

*

But silence knew,

After nerve-racking noise one requires fleeting silence,

But after peaceful silence,

One only desires a little more of silence,

And that alone is the victory of silence.

*

Where silence is like God’s blessings,

Noise like the devil’s bleating,

Silence connects to lasting goodness,

And noise to ultimate wilderness.

*

Silence is serene,

Silence is evergreen,

As it starts in the mother’s womb,

And continues till the tomb.
