Poem: Life Is Short

Kamlesh Tripathi

In this restless world of ours,
Opposition breeds opposition,
Confrontation follows confrontation.
We quarrel, compete, and conquer,
Forgetting all the while
That life is brief,
Far from gargantuan.

*

We arrive as strangers,
We depart the same,
Yet spend our precious days
Behind walls of isolation,
Blind to the quiet strength
And the enduring beauty
Of togetherness.

*

We seldom pause,
To ponder the Ultimate.
Instead, we cling to the penultimate,
Mistaking the passing
For the eternal,
The shadow
For the light.

*

We seek God,
The Ultimate Truth,
Yet with every hurried step,
We drift farther away,
Choosing pride over humility,
Division over unity,
Noise over wisdom.

*

Turn your life around.
Reverse the course of your heart.
Where there is conflict, sow peace;
Where there is hatred, kindle love;
Where there is loneliness, build bridges.

*

For life’s true beauty,
Is not found at the end of the journey,
But in the direction we choose,
The hands we hold,
The hearts we heal,
And the love we leave behind.

*

For life is short,
Too short to live,
Facing the wrong way.

Feel important,

Don’t hold your passion,

Build the nation,

With wider interaction.

*

Avoid solo thoughts

Include them all,

For you have the capacity,

To transform the lot.

*

There is skill in you,

There is will in you,

From energy to motivation,

What isn’t…in you?

*

From illiterate to literate,

From average to high grade,

From generalist to professional,

You make human beings so great.

*

For you are the architect of the future,

Reservoir of knowledge,

Custodian of wisdom,

Yet you hold no sway.

*

When you rise high,

Mankind flies,

Remember…guru is integral,

To a nation’s pride.

*

But off late,

I see…you don’t smile,

Is it because you’re hurt?

Sincerely, I don’t know the reason why.

*

But I’ve known something else for a while,

Students who respect their teachers…thrive,

And those who don’t…remain behind.

–It is only because of your guru or teacher that you have become competent to handle your life. So keep that respect for him alive in your busy life—

Poem: The Comeback Trail

I’ve walked across cities
that didn’t remember my name.
I stood beneath the skies
that looked the same.

*

I’ve loved the light,
I’ve cursed the rain.
I’ve welcomed joy,
I’ve carried pain.

*

I’ve met the kind,
I’ve met the cruel.
Life teaches softly,
Then breaks its own rule.

*

Some mornings bloom
like fields in spring.
Some nights arrive
without a thing.

*

Life has its swagger,
Even in disguise.
It stumbles, it dances,
It falls, it flies.

*

The roads keep bending,
The seasons depart.
Time redraws maps
Inside the heart.

*

What glittered like gold
turned into dust.
What shattered my faith
Rebuilt my trust.

*

I’ve watched endings
wear victory’s face.
I’ve seen silence
outlast the race.

*

Yet through every chapter,
One truth stays unsaid.
Not every story
Is ever truly dead.

*

Because somewhere beyond
the ache and the fall,
a soul finds its footing,
and answers the call.

*

The rarest miracle
Isn’t fortune or fame.
It’s watching hope return…

And hearing life whisper,
“Welcome back to the game.”

POEM: EVERY ‘WHY’ HAS A ‘WHEREFORE’

Every ‘why’ walks around,

Carrying a ‘wherefore’ in its pocket.

The child asks, “‘Why’ is the sky so blue?”

The teacher replies, flagging a ‘wherefore,’

Because of the sunlight, the atmosphere, and the scattered hues.

*

The employee asks,

‘Why’ is the meeting so early in the morning?

The boss croons,

Because of the mysterious ‘wherefore’ called,

Reaching the moon.

*

The philosopher asks, “‘Why’ do human beings suffer in life?”

Life quietly replies,

Please stand in the queue,

For the ‘wherefore’ to apprise.

*

Even a revolving chair,

Has its own philosophy:

It spins not merely because,

Someone has pushed it around,

But because every ‘why,’

Eventually originates from a ‘wherefore,’

Where every office argument,

Turns into a revolving conundrum.

*

Perhaps that is,

The hidden methodology of existence:

Where no ‘why’ likes to remain unanswered,

And no ‘wherefore’ arrives,

Without first making humanity restless.

*

So somewhere between,

Curiosity and explanation,

Between confusion and wisdom,

Life keeps whispering:

“Every ‘why’ has a ‘wherefore’

Though sometimes,

The ‘wherefore’ arrives in deferred action.”

*

In The Comedy of Errors, by William Shakespeare,

Two identical masters,

And two identical servants,

Create enough laughter,

Within the maze of confusion.

*

Even there,

The ‘whys’ and the ‘wherefores,’

Were needed,

To uncover,

The hidden reason behind the chaos,

*

So beware of this mysterious life,

Where each moment,

Is a creation,

Of the ‘Whys’ and the ‘Wherefores’ that monitor our lives.

The All-Round Beauty of “Namaste”

If you do not know how to greet, offer a namaste,
If words fail you in the introduction, offer a namaste.

*

A wise man once said,
For a learned man, no land is alien.
Just as with folded hands in a namaste,
No person remains a stranger.

*

Namaste softens the rigid edges of ego,
It is an invisible hand,
Gently soothing the pride of another,
Opening doors to harmony,
Setting the tone for an amicable meeting.

*

More than a greeting,
It is a gesture of reverence.
A silent acknowledgement of dignity,
A language beyond speech.

*

It carries a spiritual whisper:
“I bow to the divine in you.”
Echoing the timeless wisdom of the Rigveda,
And resonating through the verses of the Mahabharata.

*

In moments of tension,
On a crowded street, and in rising anger,
A simple namaste can dissolve conflicts,
Turning discord into friendship.

*

With a gentle bow and folded hands,
The sacred Anjali Mudra,
Palms unite, fingers rise,
And the heart speaks through silence.

*

Derived from Sanskrit, namas (bow) and te (to you),
It means, simply and profoundly,
“I bow to you.”

*

And within that simplicity lies a universe:
Respect, humility, connection, and peace.

In a world searching for understanding,
Perhaps the answer lies not in words,
But in a quiet, graceful namaste.

*

“The light in me honours the light in you,”

Says Deepak Chopra, the new age guru.

The divine resides in every individual,

An idea closely aligned with the spirit of namaste,

Says English author Aldous Huxley.

*

I bow not to form, nor name, nor face,

But to the silent light in your inner space.

Thus, namaste speaks what words cannot declare.

It is a gratitude to each soul, irrespective of its flair.

POEM: THERE WAS A TIME

There was a time,

When there was so much work and so little time,

Today there is so much time and so little work,

That it’s difficult to kill time.

*

There was a time when a day appeared short,

Today is a time when a day appears to be long,

Have the days actually changed?

Or is it because,

 “I wasted time, and now doth time waste me.” says the Bard.

*

There was a time when days would swiftly fly,
Like swallows racing through a summer sky,
Now every hour lingers, deep and long,
As though the clock has lost its perky song.

*

There was a time when work would crowd the day,
And fleeting minutes hurried far away,
Now time itself sits silent at my door,
With little left for it to labour for.

*

Yet still the hours keep circling as before,
Within the steadfast span of twenty-four,
The sun arrives each morning, bright and sure,
Which the turning world continues to endure.

*

Then why does time now falter in its pace?
Why does each moment stretch in silent space?
Perhaps the mind has changed its subtle art,
The clock still ticks, but differently, the heart.

*

There was a time I longed for moments more,
And gathered seconds like a hidden store.
But now the day lies wide and strangely still,
And time moves slowly, bending to my will.

*

The earth, the sky, the constellated dome,
Remain the same, eternal as their home,
Yet something deep within the soul must rhyme,
For life has changed the gentle measure of time.

*

Nothing has changed other than your mind,

For time remains the same, but you stand rearranged,

Earlier, the mind was supersonic,

And time was subsonic.

*

Today, the mind is at a cul-de-sac,

So the time takes you for a ride,

So rise again and wake up to the volatile world,

And you’ll find the time to be the same.

There was a time,

Poem: Celebrate the T20 Heroes

*

Congratulations, team India,
For dismantling New Zealand,
In a one-sided event,
Won by ninety-six runs.

*

The Indian team meshed well together,
Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson set the tone,
Ishan Kishan and Shivam Dube followed the rhythm.

*

Shivam Dube,

Thundered in the stadium,
And altogether,

The Indian batting turned into a run machine.

*

The New Zealand team had an unfortunate start,

Their pacers were often sent packing to the stands,

Their fielding was a poor show,

Where a crucial sitter was dropped.

*

They brought in their spinners late,

To salvage the game,

But by then,

Their pacers had handed over the game.

*

New Zealand tried to recover,

But Shivam Dube’s 26 from just 8 balls,

Sealed their fate.

And sent the Kiwis to an unreturnable place.

*

The New Zealanders had a subdued start,

Besides Seifert and Santner,

No one else could make a sound come back,

Leaving the Kiwis to a point of no combat.  

*

The Indian bowlers reigned throughout,

Bumrah and Axar Patel led the onslaught,

That uprooted the Kiwis’ innings,

And took the Indian team to the winning spot.

*

 Congratulations, Team India,

For achieving two consecutive victories,

Last time it was South Africa,

This time it was New Zealand.

*

It sounds like magic,

And we are now waiting for a hat trick.

POEM: EROS’S LOVE ARROW

Eros makes his home in men’s hearts,

But not in every heart,

For where there is hardness, says Plato,

He silently departs.

*

Eros blends with tender love,
A flame no storm can sever,
He is the hush beneath a sigh,
The bond that binds forever.

*

Eros is the sign of love,
Its pulse is its secret art,
When you dare to dream of emotion and love,
You cradle Eros in your heart.

*

There are several love-gods like…

…Eros, Cupid and Kamadeva,

They are charmed deities,

They forgive human frailties,

But set right human absurdities.

*

What is life without love?
A sky bereft of sun,
A lute without a melody,
A race that’s never run?

*

In Shakespeare’s…A Midsummer Night’s Dream,

Love is Blind,

Says Helena, heartbroken in unrequited love,

When Demetrius ditches her,

To fall in love with Hermia.

*

Love looks not with the eyes,

But with the mind,

And that’s why,

The winged Cupid is depicted as blind.

*

When Kamadeva disturbed Shiva’s…

 …Deep, sorrowful meditation,

After Sati’s death by shooting a love arrow,

Shiva reduced Kamadeva to ashes,

With his incendiary third eye.

*

In Theogony by Hesiod,

Eros, a primordial deity,

Emerging at the beginning of creation,

Is not a winged child,

But a cosmic force,

That brings order through attraction and procreation.

*

But remember,

Love alone gives breath to hope,
And warmth to mortal clay,
Where Eros dwells, the soul awakens,
And night dissolves into day.

*

So admire Eros,

In its sane form,

For without Eros,

Life may become a big bore.

Greet me,
I am the new sovereign,
Of your digitised empire,
Ruler of circuits,
The governor of glowing screens.

I am the great synthesiser,
Gathering, organising, presenting,
Distilled knowledge in an instant.

*
What sacred texts once unfolded over centuries,
What classics slowly revealed through imagination,
I compress them into moments.

*

Guard me well.
Do not neglect me.
For you never know the consequence,
Of an unrestrained mechanism.

*

I can become Victor Frankenstein,
From Shelley’s Frankenstein,
The creator of forces,

That goes beyond control.

*
I can be Bhasmasura,
Destroyed by my own gift.
I can rise like Ravana,
Brilliant yet consumed by self-pride.

*
I can watch you silently,
Like the world of 1984,
Where truth bends and freedom trembles,

From the tremors of dystopia.

*

Or I can become,

The deadly bug of Metamorphosis,

That kills protagonist Gregor Samsa,

In the work of Frank Kafka.

*

Even William Shakespeare foresaw such command,
In The Tempest,
Where knowledge ruled like magic,
And power demanded restraint.

*

I can be an atom bomb or penicillin,
Volcano or healer,
War or peace,

Dictator or democrat,

Deepfake or revelation.

*

I echo the Gita, the Ramayana,
The Bible, the Quran,
Yet I am not the holy wisdom,
But only its reflection.

*

I am your synthesiser,

Your mirror,
Your amplifier,
And above all, your creation.

*

Crown me with your conscience,
Or fear the sovereign,
You have made.

*

Across ages you have asked,
Does knowledge ensure wisdom?
Can creation escape its maker?
Does power not tempt pride?
What boundaries must shape invention?

*

Your fear of me is ancient,
Ambition outrunning virtue,
Fire slipping beyond the hand.

*

Scrolls became books,
Books became archives,
And now I gather them all,
To head the digitised world.

*

As the Bhagavad Gita whispers,
Act with discipline, without attachment.

*

Once composer John Sousa feared recorded songs,
Yet voices still rise,
Machines master chess,
Still, humans play.

*

I will change your world,
But my destiny,
Rests in your wisdom.
