U.P. POLICE NEEDS TO GIVE A MORE PROFESSIONAL INTRODUCTION OF ITSELF

Copyright@shravancharitymission

1

UP is the biggest state of India, with supposedly a huge professional police force. But then why is it that UP Police often gives a clumsy introduction of itself.

From running after minister Azam Khan’s buffaloes, to 40 policemen being caught ticket less while travelling by train just a couple of days ago near Agra, to disposing of bombs in UP style- grab it, dunk it, beat it; again near Agra. The already long list is only increasing.

Surely, the bosses of UP Police need to introspect over the dwindling public impression of the police force.

After all, ‘you are what other people see you as’ – Sartre

Please read the column published in TOI on 19.3.15 wherein UP Policemen take a risky route to diffuse bombs:

“Bomb disposal, UP style: Grab it, dunk it, beat it

Ishita.Mishra@timesgroup.com

Agra: What do you do when confronted with a dozen or so country made bombs on the staircase of a crowded library? Two Agra cops found themselves in such a situation on Tuesday. Their response left onlookers confused about whether to applaud their courage or deplore their stupidity. The duo filled a container with water, then dunked the bombs in it to “neutralize” them.

Not satisfied with their effort and fearful the bombs may still explode, they hunted for sticks and stones and started beating the bombs to pulp. Finally they carried the explosives with them on their motorbike to get rid of them at some safe place.”

Surely, this is not a professional way of diffusing bombs; nor a professional way to display raw guts.

CELEBRITIES, PLEASE DON’T JUST ENDORSE PRODUCTS FOR CASH STACKS ALONE- THINK OF THE CUSTOMER TOO

Copyright@shravancharitymission

Product endorsement is a form of testimonial from someone, who indicates they like or approve of a product. Generally, product endorsements are solicited from people who are socially prominent. Friedman & Friedman defines a ‘celebrity endorser as an individual who is known by the public for his or her achievements in areas other than that of the product class endorsed.’

Therefore, in that context, is it right for any celebrity to endorse a company’s product without proper due diligence, about its quality and customer satisfaction levels. In fact, customer satisfaction should be one of the basic criteria to decide, whether the celebrity should go ahead and endorse the product or not.

46

For, when a customer decides to buy a product. He does take into account the profile and aura of the celebrity, who is endorsing it and takes his ‘words’ to be the gospel truth. But why? We may ask. Reason is very simple. Because, the customer one way or the other equates the profile and personality of the celebrity, endorsing the product, with that of himself and the product and service, the company offers.

Moreover, the customer ratifies the ‘trust’ by buying the product, that the celebrity creates around the product by endorsing it–Primarily in parameters of quality; and a brief description of ‘quality’ would be, ‘what is promised, is delivered.’

79

BUT THERE ARE CERTAIN INDUSTRIES WHERE CAUTION IS REQUIRED BY CELEBRITIES

For example Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the brand ambassador of Amrapali group. A prominent builder of North India, and endorses almost all their housing projects. Film stars such as Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor (nee Neetu Singh) endorse flats and houses of Gaur sons and Shahrukh Khan for Mahagun.

These celebrities, endorse projects of builders by appearing in full page newspaper and magazine advertisements, apart from bill board and fancy TV advertisements. To build that brand pull by charging a fortune–mostly in crores. But before accepting these endorsements, do they even check to their satisfaction about the myriads of customer complaints against these builders, in terms of projects not being completed on time, quality issues, overcharging, illegal construction, stopping of genuine refunds to customers and the list is but long. And, basis these endorsements, thousands and thousands of customers invest their hard earned and lifetime savings with these builders only to be left hapless most of the times.

SO IS THERE A WAY OUT?

Just as the company undertakes a thorough due-diligence about the celebrity, in terms of his or her brand positioning against the product he is about to sign. The celebrity too should also undertake a thorough check of the company’s reputation and its customer satisfaction levels. Where, the advertising agency should provide all but relevant details to the product endorser. Maybe, the government can formulate a stringent law against such celebrities, who endorse false claims across industry, product and customer satisfaction levels.

For, it will only be ethical on the part of these celebrities to make their additional millions, by not callously stamping on a common man’s dream, by endorsing any product, by any company. And, for such companies without any moral and ethics. It is imperative they revisit their mission and vision.

Arnab Goswami, editor-in-chief, Times now, is leading an unrelenting media campaign against VVIP-ISM. He is fast becoming the likes of many crusaders; mostly standing by whistle blowers who have lost their lives fighting injustice that mars the society in some manner or the other. Crusaders such as Satendra Dubey, Manjunath and now IAS officer DK Ravi and many more distinguished personalities who lost their lives for a worthy cause have touched his emotional cord and he sensitizing India towards dealing with the scourge of corruption that breeds in the confines of Political-Bureaucratic-Businessman nexus.

Yesterday, on news hour debate one could see the passion oozing out of him, when he was taking issues about politicians and builders daringly.

And, under the circumstances it will only be proper for the Government to provide adequate security cover to him.

Well done Arnab and keep it up.

AN INDIAN POLICEMAN’S MINDSET: THE WORLD IS MY OYSTER

An Indian policeman has a terrific sense of belongingness. He considers everything around him as his own. Be it may, the Chaiwala around the corner, the poor food vendor selling Chawal-Chole, the next door paan-beedi shop or even the Indian Railways where he must get his pound of flesh. But for a change they were in for a shock. And kudos to railway magistrate VK Singh. Read this very interesting column:

Times of India 18.3.15

40 Policemen found hiding in train toilets

Agra: A drive against ticket less travel, launched by railway magistrate VK Singh, led to the unmasking of some unusual suspects- as many as 40 ticketless cops were found hiding in toilets to avoid being penalized by the TTE.

The surprise check was conducted on Mahakaushal Express and Chhattisgarh Express trains, as they are considered the most convenient trains to travel between the neighbouring districts of Agra and Mathura.

A team led by the railway magistrate along with assistant commandant of Railway Protection Force (RPF) and five other security personnel challaned a total of 103 passengers. Of these, 40 were reported to be civil police personnel, posted at various stations and outposts in the two districts.

Of the total Rs 29,780 collected as fine Rs 11,990 was collected from the cops.

#KISHORE-KUMAR- NOT A RECIPIENT OF ANY “PADMA” AWARD EVEN AFTER 27 YEARS OF HIS DEATH

Copyright@shravancharitymission

523

Does it require something more than sterling- unquestioned-talent to earn these awards?

It is already stinking. But before it starts rotting. The present government should correct, one of the biggest follies of the previous governments of not awarding any ‘Padma’ award to legendary, genius and ever green Kishore Kumar. One of the biggest all time singers of India- who died 27 years ago.

He spent 41 years in the industry as an actor and a singer and that too par excellence. And all rolled into one as a producer, director, lyricist, music director and a scriptwriter. So, it is indeed intriguing to note why government after government failed to include him in the awardee list- not even a Padma Shri … which is so very pathetic.

Kishore Kumar was a cynosure of every Indian, cutting across religion, mother- tongue, regions and states. And, I’m more than sure. Indians will be most eager to know as to why this son-of-the-soil has been denied the prestigious ‘Padma’ award. Especially, when we compare this iconic film personality with many others who have received ‘Padma’ awards much earlier in their careers. It gives you an eerie feeling loaded with bias.

By not including him in the awardee list we have not only insulted Kishore Kumar but every Indian who has a song or two of Kishore on his lips. And may curse be upon all those, who with ulterior motives, kept omitting his name from the list of awardees year after year.

But a ray of hope comes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is now busy correcting many wrongs of India, committed in the past and I am sure he will take up this wrong too.

Kishore Kumar has sung 2,703 songs in 1188 Hindi films. He has also sung 156 Bengali and 8 Telugu songs. May Kishore Da rest in peace.

TALL MANMOHAN- MEEK PRIME MINISTER

Copyright@shravancharitymission

Kamlesh Tripathi

213

A couple of days back Sonia Gandhi with her brigade of Congress MPs staged a half kilometer solidarity march only to tell India and the world, that Dr Manmohan Singh is above corruption and that the trial court summoned him out of unknown motives. Some judiciary stalwarts called it a case judicial overreach. And, some BJP leaders playfully consider Dr Manmohan Singh as an upright and straight forward academician- Prime Minister; and they keep resonating this at regular intervals so that they can shift the entire tag of corruption towards the Congress High Command –Sonia Gandhi.

Media too refers Dr MMS as a victim of circumstances, overlooking those famous cautioning words, ‘Caesar’s wife needs to be above suspicion.’ And, so, also the Prime Minister of the largest democracy of the world. But, in all of this Dr MMS is either too naïve or too smart and needs to answer some questions to retain his tall and revered brand equity:

  • For if there was corruption, financial misdeeds and scams in the UPA regime why should Sonia Gandhi alone take the blame as he was an untiring accomplice, being head of the Government.
  • And it doesn’t cut much ice that he was arm-twisted to carry out corrupt instructions; where he could have dis-obeyed Sonia Gandhi and stepped down. So you became an accomplice to be in a coveted position of PM.
  • You enjoyed being the Prime Minister of the country meeting world leaders, staying in that sprawling 7 race course road, roaming in those BMWs cars, SPG protected. And even today by virtue of that position you are where you. And so why should you not take the entire blame of corruption. In fact a person who can stop corruption but doesn’t is equally to be blamed.

And unless MMS clears the air, his image will remain stained and this is what power can do to even a TALL MANMOHAN.

Open letter to #Sebi, #TRAI, #PF-commissioner about #Tulip #Telecom Limited- a listed company run by ex-serviceman Lt Col H S Bedi

Dear SEBI, TRAI & PF COMMISSIONER

We all want ‘acchey din’ for every Indian as committed by our dynamic Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi.

Last year acting on your complaint, the ever helpful honorable #Supreme Court of India ordered the arrest of Subrata Roy, founder and Chairman of Sahara Group for not depositing amounts collected from small investors with you. This heralded a vigilant SEBI trying to protect the interest of “small investors” a welcome gesture, seldom heard; nevertheless a new beginning.

2

And, while it is gratifying to learn that SEBI cares for the ‘small’ in India. I would like to cite an example of another listed company in the name and style of “TULIP TELECOM LIMITED” run by an unethical and shameless Lt Col H S Bedi, about whom, I understand, has not paid the dues, including statutory, to its employees and has also been jailed for evasion of service tax.

While SEBI willfully nurses the wounds of ‘small investors’ what about wounds of hapless ‘employees’ of such listed companies; and where is TRAI? (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) that is required to brazenly monitor such rogue companies and their unethical board of directors. In fact Indian Inc. has a cherished reputation and it is only because of companies like Tulip Telecom and MDs like Lt Col H S Bedi, the revered Corporate Behemoth appears sullied at times; and sadly so.

13

There is a possibility, that both SEBI and TRAI are unaware of this company and its rueful deeds; and just to substantiate the magnitude of the issue I am scripting the story I have received from one of the employees with his name veiled with a request to both SEBI, TRAI and the PF Commissioner to provide relief to the concerned employee.

SEBI must be doing an intense due-diligence before allowing companies to raise public funds, as it is a matter of serious concern if some companies do not even pay statutory PF dues and other full and final sundry amounts to their hapless employees and ask them to just leave, high and dry. And if not, SEBI must build a mechanism to circumvent such frauds committed by such rogue companies by attaching the movable and immovable assets of such companies including their directors, as mere jail term wouldn’t be sufficient. On the other hand TRAI should revoke licenses of such companies and utilise their deposits if any with them to pay off genuine employee dues. A proper trail of funds should be launched and such failing directors should be debarred from registering any other company in future; basis their unscrupulous and criminal intent. The Provident fund commissioner, if asleep in this matter, is requested to wake up and help employees.

CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) and ASSOCHAM (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India) should debar such companies and their Board of Directors from their membership. For make no mistake if Surata Roy can languish in the jail why can’t Lt Col H S Bedi, and if Sahara’s properties can be attached why not Tulip Telecom’s property?

#MNCs wanting to collaborate with Indian companies should desist from taking on board such companies and directors with dubious distinctions; and even iconic personalities such as film-personalities and cricketers should not endorse products off such companies where directors have the propensity and nudge for hapless employee dues.

I am giving below a gist of the sad story of the employee in the form of his 27th reminder addressed to the Management team of Tulip, which they again chose not to reply. The team comprises Sukhmani Bedi DS Bedi and Col Bedi. The excerpts of his e-mail are as below (Complete correspondence is available)

Subject: Request for release of Full and Final and other statutory payments on humanitarian grounds.
Dear Ms Sukhmani, Mr Deepender & Col Bedi

Warm – New Year Greetings,

  • Last year, I had tried many possible methods to connect with all of you on a daily basis, be it may, via phone calls, text msgs, wts-app and even emails. But for some strange reasons, none of you, neither took my calls nor returned my calls, nor did you reply to my messages, nor my emails. In fact I have been writing mails profusely regarding clearance of my dues for last 10 months but till date I haven’t got a firm reply from you.
  • The employee further underscored about his urgent financial need in terms of his brother undergoing treatment in one of the hospitals but then also the unethical-trio never responded.
  • Sukhmani once called on 13th Aug 2013 and basis discussions committed to call back with updates with respect to the long pending full and final payment of Rs 4.16; but after that, days have gone by and the employee is yet to hear from her and as a matter of fact he has tried to connect through phone, sms and even wtsapp- but all in vain.
  • As a last resort the employee once again begs as he has nowhere to go and mentions. “I am  forced to write to you again as I have been traumatized and “cornered due to “Zero Communication methodology” adopted by “Tulip Management” with regard to release of my FNF (full and final) amount and other statutory payments and compliance’s like PF payment and Form 16.” And there are many trailing mails to establish the concerns. Employee further writes.
  • I have tried my level best to connect with Mr. Ashu and both of you via all modes of communication for last 5 months but all in vain again and this pains me deep. (Please refer trailing mails) I have very categorically and emphatically mentioned my personal and financial problems but it seems my miseries have no effect on Tulip’s management.
  • However, basis several discussions with Ashu & Sukhmani regarding subject matter, I am constantly writing for clearance of my dues. The last communication on the subject was from Ashu on 29th April 2013 stating me to “call him to work out a payment plan” (trail mails). Post, that I have made innumerable calls and written constantly but I am yet to receive a firm positive revert from you. I must add with a heavy heart that I am a shattered man and I feel betrayed by the Management.
  • And ss you are aware, I had served the company to the best of my ability and was instrumental in establishing video business. I stuck with the company in worst of time and was the last person in video team to quit as my struggle to maintain myself and family reached a boiling point and sustainability and survival became the “core issue.”
  • Sukhmani , although you are quite aware of current financial and family circumstances yet allow me to throw some light and refresh you. My financial & family life is currently quite deplorable as I am the sole bread winner of my family with a widowed mother and a sick brother diagnosed of a cerebral medical condition in December 2012 and currently under treatment.
  • I request you with folded hands to consider my case on humanitarian grounds and release my funds as below
  1. Full and Final payment of rupees 4.16 lacs
    2. Provident fund Statutory per Law of GOI
    3. Form-16: Statutory compliance to be adhered by organization as per GOI.

The employee once again requests the Management of Tulip Telecom to settle his dues.

From Rawalpindi to Lucknow to Mumbai to Delhi; Vinod Mehta travelled on and on, only to tell the truth, nothing else but the truth. And in the process he created many critics who actually loved him for pointing their wrong at the right time and the test of it was seen in the Lodhi Crematorium on Sunday where even Netas singed by him were there to see him off, and the newspapers, abuzz with tributes.

May you rest in peace- Lucknow Boy.
