It is my the last morning walk in the pandemic year. Year is a set of numbers. It changes from 2020 to 2021 at midnight today. Numbers bring discipline. They give clarity, targets and innumerable missions, without which, man feels, irritable and unfocused, so much so, that he has even numbered, his period of existence, in mother earth. I ask a tree how about the NEW YEAR? Tree replies, ‘How about the coming spring. Spring is nature, nature is God, New-Year is man made that sounds odd.’ I replied, number is kinetic but you are static.’ Tree replied, ‘you have an eye for the kinetic but not for the static.’ Hailing the trees, flows the breeze, when a branch points, at the huge, old, iconic, banyan tree. ‘See how it has changed over the years. It mirrors the history of the civilization, but you don’t have the deep static eyes, to witness it. So let me give you a new set of eyes today.’

‘Your new set of eyes will slow me down.’

‘My new set of eyes will spirit you up.’

In the meanwhile my hour of morning walk was getting over … of course, tied up, to yet another number. The squirrels are busy, birds are occupied and langurs are at play. I am walking out of the garden, indebted to the tree, that blessed me about the number less New Year, the beautiful spring. But why only spring. Dig in deep and you’ll find myriads of numberless, natural NEW YEARS. I now have the static eyes to discern them. And what a great mingle … the number and the nature. A divine brew in the making. Till then HAPPY NEW YEAR.
